Back from hiatus!
Posted at 08:07 PM

Well, can I just say that I went on a blog hiatus without actually intending to. Haha The truth is, the previous entry - the one entitled "a look back before a step forward" was supposed to be a two-part entry, with that entry being the "look back" and another entry being the "step forward" but, I could not believe the workload that I had over the summer, especially the latter parts so ayun, the supposedly "a look back before a step forward" is just going to be a "look back." haha

So anyway, I had to cram a lot of things for the latter part of summer. I also had to balance several things - my Unilever individual revalida, my Unilever group revalida, my regcom responsibilities as well as my DVD marathons. haha

So, for my Unilever individua revalida, can I just say that my vanity has reached its highest and proudest point. haha Well, for the individual revalida, we are required to showcase the things we did as interns and explain what we learned. And since I was the first one who started, I was also the first one who ended. *sigh* So ayun, in front of my two bosses and the HR Business Partners, I presented what I supposedly did and learned. haha ewan. For the first time ever, I had the shivers. I have handled countless oral presentations - minsan nga, di ko na alam ang pinagsasabi ko, pero go na go pa rin. But this time it was different. The air was different. The feeling was different. I guess it was the gravity of the actual presentation. Its not for final marks any more. Its for something beyond the academe career of mine - a place where QPI's and syllabi are but a distant memory. Kung baga, next level nga talaga! At eto pa, after my presentation and the Q&A (na pang miss universe ang mga tanong), they asked me to leave the room so they could deliberate. Can I just say that I really hate that feeling of me sitting in front of a couch facing a closed door of a room where there are five people talking about no one else but me. So ayun, I have no idea how I did. Sana nadala sila sa pambobola ko. haha *fingers crossed*

I also had my Unilever group revalida. At the start of our internship, we were grouped into well, groups of 6 to 7 to work on a project about Knowledge Management for Unilever. I was grouped together with the Finance and Legal Department - together, we are part of Unilever's Shared Services. Para naman may "cameo" sila sa blog ko, sige na nga, I'll enumerate my groupmates - there's Mel from Legal, Anton and Rose Ann from Management Accounting, and Anisah, Gerjane and Lance from Financial Accounting. And of course there's me, Aldrich from World Class Excellence. haha (o di ba, "hea-bigat" ng department ko no, haha.) So ayun, before we worked on our project, we had to have a name : Team FLUU. (F is for Finance, L is for Legal Services, UU is for World Class Excellence.) Haha, UU is actually W, "double U." Ayan, gets? If not, rinse and repeat. My group revalida was in one word, crammed. haha super crammed because 3 members of the group were part of Ateneo/UP's registration committee. So, our presentation was scheduled at 1:30 and I arrived in Unilever at 7:30 to cram my part. so at around 10:30 when our paper was about to be finished and we were planning to start our ppt, I went to the HR Building to check on other groups. Buti na lang i did, because nagkapalit-palit pala ang sched - we were scheduled for 11:30 - barely an hour away! Can you say, pak-shit-oh-my-gad-bakit-naman-ganito-panic!? haha as in super panic to the next level! haha barely an hour away and wala pang hard copy, wala pang slides sa powerpoint and most of all, we did not yet know what we were going to say. Siyempre, super hanap kami ng paraan, reasoning out that we were not informed about the changes etc. Pero mukhang ayaw ng HR ilipat yung schedule eh. Our saving grace was that the whole day was delayed for two hours pala. haha thank god for Filipino time! haha and the highlight of that day was one panelist's comment - "you look really prepared for this, parang may script pa kayo." Oh di ba, kaya mo yun? haha This experience certainly topped my Marketing 101 cramming experience. haha Wala lang, I felt thankful for my groupmates. haha in such a a stressful situation, we all carried through. To Team FLUU, see you sa Culminating Night. haha (hopefully, di naging variable ang pay natin di ba?)

And of course there's regcom. haha There is the act of waking up at 4 am. Not to mention going home late at night. And don't get me started on the things that happen in between. Pero, I lavit! haha Its not love nga eh, its more of an addiction. Parang, I dread the prep days, pero I miss it. haha Also, its nice to be with people you got to know in the past and the new members as well. Plus, the perks of being PROIC (Problem Regform/Public Relations Officer In Charge) sometimes means you get to directly help people - i mean, actually seeing people's relief once I get to fix their schedules and resolve their issues. Hahay, too bad isang semester na lang at tapos na ang Regcom days ko. Can you say, senior's syndrome?

And finally, there's my long overdue DVD marathon... I have the latest seasons of House, Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars and Heroes. katamad na magkuwento, pero I am so loving the fact that I don't have anything to think about yet. My internship just ended and the school year just began so wala pang nagpapile-up.

Ayun, so that's it for the latter part of summer. haha I'll be posting about the first few days of school soon. haha And before I forget:

First Week High
Posted at 09:02 PM

As promised in my last post, this is one of my traditional start-of-the-semester posts. For this semester, I am taking 18 units, half of which are Major Subjects - Eco 177 Theory and Practice of Social Development, Eco 122 International Economics and LS 126 Strategy Formulation and the other half are Core Subjects - Pos 100 Politics and Governance, Ph 104 Foundations of Moral Values and Theo 141 Theology of Social Catholic Vision. Come to think about it, these subjects are so (forgive me for the lack of a better term) senior-ish. haha Slowly but surely, it is dawning on me that after only a few months, I'm gonna be done with college.

Can I just say that the list of possible class schedules for this semester was way beyond crappy, very very very slim pickings. Even with the privilege of early registration, most regcom members still have crappy scheds. And I am no exception.

Here's my sched:

M-W-F
9:30-10:30  Pos 100
1:30-2:30 Ph 104

T-Th
7:30-9:00 Eco 122
9:00-10:30 Eco 177
10:30-12:00 LS 126
12:00-1:30 Th 141

O di ba!? Can I just say that death is coming, haha especially with the 7:30-1:30 straight classes that I have for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Anyway, classes in general have been "ok." Ok as no class or teacher in particular grabbed my attention. Well, except for one - one that I wasn't really supposed to be in. The thing is, I was supposed to take Eco 122 at the 3:00-4:30 time slot, but then something crappy happened and it got moved to 7:30-9:00. I was desperate to look for another alternative - and I found one, Eco 185 Modern Chinese Economy. I'm still not sure if it would be credited to my minor in International Business, but I felt, whatthaheck, so I went to the class just to have a feel to it. haha

So in I went to SS 280 and sat down in front (which was quite inappropriate for someone who wasn't officially in the class list haha). I found many familiar faces there seeing that eco and meco majors usually have mixed classes. The professor was late so I had time to chat with people. When the professor arrived, I was very curious as to what she was all about. haha to describe her, she looked like Pokwang. haha But this lady means business - I mean, it only took 5 minutes for her to impress me. haha hmmm, let me see, where do I start.. ahh yes, the british accent. haha she's the first professor I ever encountered who prounces forgot as "foh-got". It is so adorable and can I just say that I love it. Plus, she breezed through macro and micro economics so quickly and effortlessly. Also, she knows the authors of the textbooks that eco majors use, not know as in she knows their biography but the kind of i-met-them-personally-shook-hands-and-conversed type of "know" haha Also, she moves her whole body when she explains... which is kinda great. Plus, her hair is like perfect (the kind that you mess up and yet returns back to its perfect-ness) haha. She reminds me of a combination of Ma'am Choa (Acc 10 teacher) and Ma'am ong (Mkt 101 teacher) and did I mention the british accent? Too bad that she was only the substitute, she actually teaches the 4:30-6:00 class but had to handle the class since the original teacher is off somewhere. I sooo want to be in that class... but let's see. haha

Oh, and I have to type something else pala. haha Kanina was my first Taco Bell experience. haha after days of wanting to go - especially after watching the convincing ads that we had to play in the Output Sections of Regcom (since taco bell is one of regcom's sponsors), I finally had the chance to go kanina. I had lots of fun - loved the tacos and the potatoes and the nachos, actually lahat naman eh except the cinnamon twirls - there really is something weird about its taste. haha and I have to thank Mandy and Sharto for this experience and the isaw experience after. It certainly has been a while since my last isaw experience. hahay, thank God the semester has just began and there really isn't that much to do yet. But I'm sure Ateneo has its way of catching up.

That's it. 'til my next post.

Pinoy Big Brother
Posted at 12:12 AM

I actually typed an entry yesterday pero umandar na naman ang sakit ng laptop ko - that annoying blue screen that instantly wipes out any unsaved documents. And I'm too lazy to type it all over again.

So anyway, here's the gist. I'm thinking of making a new layout for this site. I haven't really thought about anything specific yet but I have thought of a color. haha Well, nobody really knows it but my layouts usually start from a dominant color and I kinda build from that. Sometimes its the other way around, but most of the time - the color dictates the design. So anyway, my first layout was dominantly orange and yellow. The second one was green. The third one was blue. And this one is dominantly violet and indigo. So in the color wheel: ROYGBIV, that clears out O,Y,G,B,I and V which leaves out red. So ayun, for the sake of my obsessive compulsive need to finish everything, my next layout will have to R for Red. haha Hopefully, I will be able to have a new layout up and running by the end of June. *fingers crossed*

Also, I decided on another thing. But I don't think i have to share it with everyone. Pero, I weighed the pros and cons of that decision and I think the best thing about it is that wala siyang con! haha O di ba? kung baga sa crime - its the best type, yung level na victimless crime. Plus, I feel that its something I need and want to do. O di ba, these days, you either have to things because you either have to or need to. This time around, its both. So I say, why not? haha

Anyway, off to randomness. Firstly, I have to say that I was able to take the third WOMBAT exam that was offered in the JK Rowling Website. It is the third one simply because there was a first and a second. Unfortunately - I was too busy roaming Singapore when they offered the first WOMBAT and I did not have internet access when the second one came along. For those who don't know what WOMBAT is its the Wizards' Ordinary Magic and Basic Aptitude Test. It is offered by the official website of JK Rowling (http://www.jkrowling.com) after clicking some things here and there. Can I just say that to describe this test, challenging is an understatement. And the third one was supposed to be the hardest. Nice one, the first WOMBAT I take is the hardest of the three. haha My timing is impeccable. Sobrang hirap niya ha, and for someone like me na super daming alam na trivia and such, haha pero this went beyond anything I knew about Harry Potter. Nosebleed talaga ang nangyari - I had trouble comprehending the questions 50% of the time and I had to guess 90% of the time. Good luck di ba? haha You think you know, but you have no idea.

Next topic: Pinoy Big Brother. I'm not sure if most people have been following the latest season of PBB. Well, if you haven't, diyos ko, napagiwanan ka na. haha I'm too lazy to type a narration. Besides, thats what the official site and some fan sites are for. So anyway, in the wendy vs gee ann feud, I'm all for Wendy. Why? Because Gee Ann is so pretentious and conniving (teka, nosebleed muna haha) - even more conniving than Wendy. Napaka doble cara kasi ni Gee Ann eh - the type who's all nice and dandy when she faces you but completely sells you out the moment you turn your back. Come on, we all meet people like that all the time. Forget wasting Nuclear Bombs and Weapons of Mass Destruction on terrorists, they should be reserved for people like them. Personally (yep, because in a way, it is personal), I think they should be wiped off the face of the earth. But that's just me. haha Now Wendy on the other hand may be frank (occasionally too frank) and sometimes cruel (occasionally going overboard) but I think kung pagpapakatotoo lang ang pinaguusapan, wala nang mas totoo diyan. If Gee Ann says that she doesn't ned the money, then why the hell is she still there? OMFG, who would want to be stuck IN that house where everything you say and do is taken under a microscope. Sino ba namang tanga ang gustong mailagay sa mata ng mapanghusgang publiko na walang nakukuhang kapalit? Diyos ko, ano ba!? Magtigil ka nga Gee Ann. if you didn't want the package (money + fame), then why the hell would you have lasted this long? If the desire and need wasn't there, dapat sa auditions pa lang, nagquit ka na di ba? Ika nga ni Bea, just be "HONEST" (prounounced na hindi silent yung "H" - HONEST). Fine, Wendy brought it up, but everyone has been thinking about it. Its like that big elephant in the room that nobody really noticed. The fact that nobody says it doesn't mean its not there.

But I don't think Wendy will win, hopefully she'll be part of the Big Four, but I Honestly (pronounced na hindi silent yung H) think that Bea will win. Honest! Haha, personally, she truly and authentically is nice and sweet. basta, mabait siya talaga eh. She knows when to be sweet and when to be spicy feisty. Go Bea! haha Can I just say that I can go on and on and on and on and on (parang energizer bunny) about PBB. . . which is in a way scary. Pero I take comfort in the fact that I am not alone, maraming PBB fans ~ aminado man o hindi. haha

So ayun, this entry is long enough. I have more things to say pero next post na lang.

Scallops!
Posted at 10:40 AM

My political science teacher e-mailed us that today's session was a free cut so here I am typing away in the comfortably cold library. haha This actually means that my one and only class is still at 1:30 and its only 9:30 am - that's four hours. Crap. haha Oh well, might as well type some things here and then do some photocopying later.

Hmmm, where should I start? Ah - T-Th classes. To tell you the truth, I was hesitant (to the point of actually being scared) of 4 straight tuesday-thursday classes. Take note that my schedule for T-Th this semester starts at 7:30 and ends at 1:30. Not only do I have four straight classes, I have a 7:30 class! haha I guess there is a first time for everything. Come to think of it, its not really that bad. Yes, waking up at 6:00 am and joining the morning rush hour at 7:00 might sound terrible, but actually its not that bad. I get to eat breakfast - which, according to Oprah, jumpstarts my metabolism which might lead to possible weight loss (asa pa. haha) Plus, I even get to play with the dogs before I leave. And the best part is, the morning air is not that humid when its 7:00! For someone who has never had a 7:30 class (well, except for INTAC a long time ago), it seems that I am enjoying it. haha Plus, I tend to stretch the limit when my classes start later in the day. Would you believe that I was constantly late for a 9:30 am (First and Second Sem, Junior Year) and even a 1:30 pm class (Second Sem, Sophomore Year)? I call it the first-class sydrome - the student's tendency to be tardy for one's first class.

Also, another benefit is that I get to be dismissed early - at 1:30. Well, going home at 1:30 is actually a drag - competing with the hordes (promise, sobrang dami nila) of children from the grade school all under the hot climate that defines the philippines these days. But yesterday, I was able to spend some time with Mandy! haha Fortunately she had a car, so going to Gateway was no problem. We had to do some marketing stuff beforehand but after that, we were free to roam. haha we actually had trouble choosing where to eat in Gateway... but we had to make that decision fast since the last time I ate was before I left the house. So from 6:45 to 1:30, the only thing that passed through my mouth was water. haha We decided to eat in Superbowl of China. I ordered this meal with pork asado and scallops. The pork asado was okay but I loved the scallops - I mean it tasted like the same one I had in Singapore! haha

Pero, I had one question in mind. Where do scallops come from? haha I asked Mandy the same question pero she was as clueless as me. Ayun, so I just ate the dish without even knowing what it was. haha It tasted good so why spoil the moment wondering where it came from. It was on a plate, it tasted good, so I just ate it. So anyway, I just googled "scallops" and found out that its a type of mussel (i think they come from the same family) but insted of the fleshy thing being eaten, I ate the white part that connects the mussel to the shell. Ayan. Who says you dont learn new things everyday.

Can I just say that talking to Mandy is like, great! haha Wala lang, it just feels like I'm talking to someone who I have have known for years but the truth is, I just got to knew her a year ago. Plus, I got to talk about something that I have been keeping to myself these past few months. Ewan. Parang gumaan yung pakiramdam ko. Thanks sobra Mandy! haha

Ayun. So on the way back to the car, I felt the urge to pee. Pero, lazy old me felt like i could hold it in until I reach the house so I didn't say anything. Once we reached the highway (which was jammed with traffic), I really really really needed to pee. And the thing is, Mandy felt the same thing. haha We were just laghing and screaming at the same time - which by the way is not the best thing to do with a full bladder. We picked up Sharto in gate one and went to the nearest CR - in Blue Eagle Gym. haha So we looked for a parking slot and found out that the CR was under renovation. I was like pak-shit-bakit-ngayon-pa? So I thought, there's bound to be another one. So we looked around until we found this really old comfort room, one that probably existed when the gym was first built. haha And the urinals were really creepy. But beggars can't be choosers right? haha can I just say that the relief I felt after that was so overwhelming. haha Its definitely one of the cheapest pleasures in life. haha

All right. I have to go do some other things pa. i'm too lazy to proofread this entry so just excuse my typos and possible grammatical errors. haha Ciao!
