Why do good things come to an end?
Posted at 09:45 PM

It has been a while since my last update. Actually, I have been busy. Not with acads, but with umm, some thing else, some things really. Not really in the mood to elaborate much but there are a couple I would like to note:

1. I have actually been going around the metro these past few days. haha parang sight seeing meets food trips. Can I just say that I am so enjoying these trips - its like I've been living in Manila for more than a decade now (actually, 15 years) and I have only been to these places in the past few days. I would just like to thank the people who have accompanied me in these little trips. haha you know who you are.

2. I now have a pond. Its all set up with fishes, water lillies, plants and its even got snails. haha And the best part is, one fish that was given to me gave birth. can you say fingerlings!? haha It has always been a frustration of mine not being able to breed fish in an aquarium (trust me, its as difficult as hell). After years of having an aquarium, the best result I was able to get was one black molly which after I introduced to the community aquarium was instantly eaten by my parrot fish. - end of aquarium breeding career. Now, breeding is a helluva lot easier now that the fingerlings have more places to hide in. I hope they get to grow into big fishes and give birth to even more fingerlings who grow up into fishes who give birth to even more and more fingerlings who... well, you get the idea. haha I have pictures to show, especially the water lily whose flower opens up when the sun is up and closes as it sets. Its just so beautiful, so purple.

Come to think of it, I think my new pond is one of the reasons why I have been late for my first classes this past week. haha When I go out of the house, I can't resist the urge to feed the fishes, five minutes later and I am still there (oftentimes, even sitting in a chair.) But its all good, its even relaxing.. time just stops. (^_^)

So anyway, there are two other things that I would like to blog about, one minor thing and one major thing. Well, they're both related really.

So the minor thing is set to be showing on the 11th of July - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Its the fifth installment of the Harry Potter Series to be released in film and I am so excited! Well, book 5 is my favorite amongst the lot (can I just say the statement "amongst the lot" is soooo british..) which is why I am so looking forward to it. I'm not really a big fan of the Harry Potter movies but its still worth the time, effort and expense to watch it in the cinema. No plans of watching it on the release date since there's probably hordes of people planning to do so so I am planning to watch it on the 12th - my theo class is a free cut on that day so its all working out for me.

And off to the major thing - clue: its set for the 21st of July. Any guesses? Still have no idea? OMG, have you been living under a rock? Its the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and sadly, final installment of the Harry Potter series! There are lots of events planned accross the globe, from the US to the UK. Sadly, I am neither in the US nor in the UK, so I'm stuck with reserving my book and waking up early that day to pick it up from National Book Store Katipunan. After that its directly off to my room which will remain locked and loaded with supplies to sustain myself until the time I finish the book.

To be honest, the coming of this final book is bittersweet. I mean, I would love to know what would happen, who gets killed, the answers to the questions and basically how it would all end. But there's the rub, I mean, knowing the end would in fact be THE end. There are no other books to look forward to. No point debating and speculating in the forums. It would all just, ummm, end. Its kinda weird feeling this way. It was just a few years ago when I picked up a soft-bound version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for a book report in English during my freshman year in high school. I was even hesitant to pick it up since at that time, I felt it was just a fad that was just going to fade. Luckily, I picked it up. And now, its my senior year in college and the series is about to end.

To be even more honest, it just seems that a lot of things are ending. I mean, there are a lot of things that I really enjoyed in high school - Harry Potter, Charmed, Gilmore Girls. Charmed ended a year ago, Gilmore Girls showed its last season and now Harry Potter is about to end. It just leaves me clueless, helpless, frustrated as to why good things come to an end. In a way, I don't want the final Harry Potter book to arrive and yet a part of me wants to get it over with - after all, even though I am a so-called potterite, that's just a part of me. Life goes on, the show must go on, the music must keep on playing.. just add in any other cliche you have in mind.

I think this entry was way longer than I expected it would be. And the truth is I even have more things in my mind but I'm not quite in the mood to share. That's it.

Overthinking.
Posted at 01:31 PM

Today was a free cut for Theology so my last class ended at 12:00 noon. Seeing that it is not only hot outside as well as the hordes of gradeschoolers in Katipunan on their way home, I decided to stay in Ateneo, at least until 4:30. After that, I'll be watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. yay! haha so now, its only 1 pm, so I still have time to burn, hopefully I'll not be too bored - I'm too lazy to start researching for Pol Sci and International Eco, but if boredom knocks, at least I have things to do. haha

I was sitting in my LS 126 class kanina, basically listening to my teacher talk about strategies, competition, suppliers and some guy from Mexico. Well, its not exactly nonsense, but its not exciting either. So what did I do? think, or more specifically, overthink.. haha It seems that these days I dont really get to think a lot, well I get to think about useless academic stuff, but not important "deep" stuff. So there, I was sitting in my chair looking at the professor, occasionally nodding my head to seem like I was listening while in fact, I was thinking, reflecting... nice, what a way to spend my tuition.

So there. Well, the topic that was inside my head was friendship. haha I know, its kinda vague. Pero seeing that my birthday is coming up very soon, which means that I will no longer be a "teen" (not unless you count "twent-een), Well, it just got me thinking, specifically about the term "Friends Forever." Its such a cliche, the type of words that you write in a high school year book to someone you lose contact with after a couple of years. Personally, I don't believe in friends forever. In the end, friendships dont last forever, friendships last as long as you want them to. It makes sense naman di ba? (see, I'm not that shallow haha) What I mean is that friendships (or making friends for that matter) take time, effort, its an act AND a process, an ongoing affair. Its not something that you leave unattended for a while and expect everything to be the same when you decide to come back. You dont decide to leave it and expect that it will be there once you decide its again worth your time.

Friendships are difficult. Like trees, they need time to grow. Like cars they require maintenance. Like computers they sometimes require upgrades. And most importantly, like the oppressed protagonist in your favorite telenovela (yeah, the one you never fail to watch BUT deny that you do), they need you to fight for them too. And if you're not willing to do so, then let go. There's no point hanging to things that are not even worth your attention. Hay. Its time that I go back to the surface. Its too deep for my taste. Besides, I'm too excited about the HP movie to think about things like these. See, this is what I get from being too bored, of having time in my hands. hahay I hate times like these. Thinking is good. Overthinking, well that's where trouble comes from.

Sige na nga baka malunod pa ako sa kakaisip, I'll start with Pol Sci na lang. haha Adios!

Harry Potter 7 : the long wait is nearly over.
Posted at 12:55 PM

In approximately 5 days, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released worldwide. Can you say, excitement? haha OMFG, the looooong wait is finally over. I read in an article that JK Rowling herself said that many people will loath the book, I mean "absolutely loathe it" because of the deaths. Personally, as long as nothing happens to Hermione, I'm good. Kill off Ron. haha

Anyway, for those who are also anticipating the release, it seems that the first page of the book was leaked. haha I doubt if this is indeed credible but desperation is in the air. (^_^)

Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending.
The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognizing each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.
"News?", asked the taller of the two.
"The best," replied Snape.'

I know its short. haha Well, we've waited for years, so a few days wont really matter. Right? Must. Maintain. Sanity. haha

For those who are interested, here are some Harry statistics:

5 seconds between each pre-order on Amazon website - 1.8 million in total.
279 branches of the book chain Waterstone's holding launch parties at the stroke of midnight on Saturday.
2,000 people expected in the queue at Waterstone's on Piccadilly, London.
24 hours and 1 minute: running time for the audio edition.
90 countries in which the book is being published.
7/4 odds from Ladbrokes on Harry Potter committing suicide at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Anyway, I'm off to Philosophy class. 'Til next time. Ciao.

Harry Potter 7: An End of an Era *spoiler free*
Posted at 09:10 PM

The end of the Harry Potter series is without a doubt, an end of an era. Whether you love or hate to love the series, Harry Potter has in one way or another, touched your life.

I woke up at 6:00 this morning to get to National Bookstore Katipunan by 7 am (hoping there would be HP giveaways.) I arrived roughly a few minutes before 7 but lo and behold, National Bookstore was still closed AND there was a line, from the entrance upto HSBC. You wouldn't believe the smile that I had, it was the first time that I felt the so called pottermania in the Philippines. I know that there are many potter fans here, but the excitement and the build up here is nothing compared to the midnight parties, tours and other activities planned by potter fans in the US or Great Britain for example. So, I was so happy to see potter fans line up, anticipating the book.

So, National Bookstore had to open eventually - and the thing was, the line was still long inside, from the cashier section up twisting all the way to the magazines section. I have never actually seen National Bookstore Katipunan that full.

Once it was my turn, I was given my own copy (quite like giving candy to a baby). What's more, I asked for a box - the one that says DO NOT OPEN UNTIL June 21, 2007 and they gave one to me! It was like Christmas came early. *goddamn wide grin* I actually wanted a box when Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but they didn't give me one. Thank God the saleslady was kind enough to do so today!

So anyway, off to my own review of the book. All in all, I would have to say that with this being the end of the series, JK Rowling truly ended it with a bang. Harry is well, Harry. Ron, is of course the bitter, overshadowed but loyal friend. Hermione, on the other hand, shone like the star that she truly is. Everything just went up a whole-nother level, the spells, the battle scenes and lets not forgot, the revelations! Hmmm, my favorite line in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:

"Not my daughter! YOU BITCH!" - Mrs. Molly Weasley

Yes, you read that right, those exact words appear in the 7th book. I was laughing so hard, teary-eyed even. haha The book all in all was so inspiring, empowering. At first I was wondering how Harry was going to do what he was planning to do but in the end, just like the last words of the book, "all was [is] well."

I finished the book in less than 8 hours - which is relatively quick but I know others who can finish it in half the time. Anyway, I tried so hard to conceal spoilers in this post, the quote and the final words are just some hints and in the end, fans are in for even more revelations anyway.

*sigh* It is still so overwhelming, so bittersweet. But all in all, I'm still glad it came, relieved that its all over and contented as to how the end came.

Update!
Posted at 09:01 PM

Finally, I have the time to type a new post. Well, there have been lots of things that have happened in the past week pero I'm too lazy to type them all down. so there. haha

Anyway, I am planning to update the layout of this blog very soon. hopefully, I'll be done by this week. If not, then it would be up and running by next week. Promise. haha If I could recall correctly, it was months ago when I was babbling about updating this layout. Pero this time, eto na talaga, this time, seryoso na. haha I'm thinking that this blog will be more personalized. haha anong level naman ng pagiging personalized? well, ika nga ni sir andrew soh, abangan!

Nga pala, my USB broke last week.

Also, August na day after tomorrow ah! bakit parang di pa masyadong umuulan? Well, may ulan pero di ba cloud seeding ang reason nun? OMG, eto na ba ang epekto ng Global Warming? Lord, I hope that we would not be affected by the adverse effects of Global Warming. The next generation is more than capable of handling that problem. hahaha

So ayun. Tama na muna siguro. I don't have anything serious to blog about naman eh. Ciao!
