Shine.
Posted at 11:08 AM in Life as I Know It

I just came from this meeting about the fundamentals of the brand I'm handling. Here I was thinking that it's all about glamour. OMFG, its so much more about that. To be honest, I feel so overwhelmed. Napakalandi ng brand ko. I loooove it! ha ha

Only one can give the shine I need
That's Pantene.
Only Pantene.
Siyempre Pantene.
Always Pantene.

So my loyalty only belongs to
Definitely Pantene.
Long or Short, Pantene.
Of course, Pantene.
From now on, Pantene.

Step up Aldrich!
Posted at 09:28 PM in Life as I Know It

Grabe, so this is how it feels to crave for the weekends. haha I mean, i used to love having weekends, but not to the point of craving it. To be honest, what I miss the most is actually being able to just sleep until noon. To just be. haha Maybe I got too used to it during my "bum" moments (este, months) just a few weeks ago. Back then, I had all the time to go shopping, but hardly any cash to do so. Now, the situation's relatively the opposite. Ang saya sana if I get the best of both worlds. Pero I ain't complaining. I just feel that Singapore is where I have to be. Right here. Right now.

I was talking to a friend yesterday. And he was telling me that he also wanted to work in Singapore. And then i told him to try applying to P&G - it is of course the reason why I'm here. haha And then he actually said that he didn't want to work in P&G, there's just too much competition, to much pressure, to much everything. And the thing is, I didn't disagree. Yes, there's competition. Yes, there's definitely pressure. And there's this concentration of people with talents and competencies that would definitely make it more difficult to shine.

But then, that's also the reason why I signed with P&G. After all, the tallest trees grow in the most crowded forests. Where else could I achieve my potential better than the place were bars are constantly raised and limits are mere milestones.

Step up na talaga ako this week. 1 month into the job. Soon enough, the "I'm new" excuse will get old. This is it.

Ang tanong ng bayan, Aldrich, can you keep up?
Ang sagot ni Aldrich, I'll give it my best shot.

After all, if you want something, and you want it very badly, all the forces in the universe will conspire to help you achev [sic] it. haha

Aldrich gets published! =p
Posted at 11:09 PM in Life as I Know It

Did you know that my face already appeared in the newspaper? haha Yep, it was in Manila bulletin - a random picture of Ateneo Freshmen undergoing their orientaton seminar, and out of all the freshment blocks, our block was the one that was featured.

Anyway, the reason why I'm reminiscing about my two minutes of for-the-lack-of-a-better-term, fame is that Jedrick told me about this li'l old article that had my name on it. haha Basically, its an Inquirer Article about the L'Oreal Estrat Challenge.

Click below for the link. I know that this is lame for some people. haha Heck,my name was only mentioned once. But the thing is, I still feel great. After all, its not everyday that your name gets published. A milestone. Not a big one, but it definitely is one. Click Here for the Link But this link won't be there forever, so I'll just post it here. ha ha

Cosmetics firm taps talents via student competition

IN A TOUGH MARKET, EVEN a company as large as L’Oreal has to maximize resources.

The company actually hits two birds with one stone through the e-Strat Challenge—an online business and strategy competition for students.

Of the thousands of university and graduate students who have joined the contest since 2000, more than 200 have joined L’Oreal Philippines as employees and the rest at least developed a better appreciation of the brand.

“The competition is a good strategy to scout for prospective hires and, at the same time, increase awareness about L’Oreal,” said Michael Mendoza.

He should know. Mendoza was a participant in this year’s competition and formally joined L’Oreal as soon as he graduated this summer.

“In my case, I really went around shops carrying L’Oreal products to prepare for the competition,” said Jedrick Gatpayat, who belonged to the second-placed Philippine team. “I discovered that they have products for guys also. I wouldn’t have known that otherwise.”

Research was a key part of preparing for the contest, where three-member teams use an online software to “manage” a virtual beauty products company for two months.

In the first round, teams register online and play one round of market analysis and management decisions. About 22,000 teams register every year.

In the second to fifth rounds, the top 1,700 teams worldwide are selected to play four more rounds of market analysis and management decisions.

To win, a team must raise the company’s share price index (SPI), which includes brand market shares, the firm’s revenues, the quality of R&D, as well as consumer satisfaction.

Participants are asked to make strategic decisions, taking into consideration sustainable performance, and are measured at each round based on their SPI.

This year’s Philippine representative was Team Bluepreneurs—management economics students John Aaron Basilio, Man Man Wong and Virgilio Bordeos—from Ateneo.

Second place was Team GTG—management engineering students Lance Lerrick Co and Jedrick Gatpayat, with management economics student Marc Aldrich Gopal.

Third Place was Team Middleground—management students Ralvin Cailles and Joseph Yap, with Maria Therese Boniface Roxas, communications technology management.

In the semifinals, the top 300 teams worldwide are tasked to write their business plans. In the final round, eight undergraduate and eight graduate student-teams make business plans and defend these before a panel of L’Oreal top managers in Paris, France.
First place in the undergraduate category went to Canada’s Team 3trickhorse from York University. Taiwan’s Team TSL from National Cheng University won in the graduate category.

Mendoza said L’Oreal is so happy with the consistently good performance of Philippine entries that it is working on getting more universities to participate. Currently, Ateneo de Manila, La Salle and University of Asia and the Pacific regularly compete.

“We are working on more university tie-ups to increase participation from other schools starting with next year’s edition of e-Strat,” Mendoza said. “It would be a good opportunity for students as well so we hope more schools will join.”

Parang Kelan Lang

Tagalog Entry Ahead
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Ayun, updates dito, issues don. Pasiklaban ng Ingles, and of course, ng acccents.

Todo na 'to! haha

FMS Reply to Previous Entry

I recieved this offline message from one of my closest friends as a response to the senti tagalog entry that precedes this one.

hi aldrich! nabasa ko ang post mo sa tabulas and I just want to say na I'm so proud of your accomplishments! yak, para akong magulang... nakikinig ako ng senti music ngayon kaya manahimik ka. but If I may differ, I think you totally deserve the spot you're in. I think you finally realize that life moves so fast... and everything that you are right now is not just because of what you were, but more significantly, of what you can become. Enjoy singapore and until then, ingat palagi!

To be honest, I read this message while I was in a regional meeting, and for some reason, it made me feel all nice and tingly. I mean, i had lots of stuff to do, and barely enough time to do it, but right at that moment, I just felt in some weird way - happy. Happy that for one - there's this person who really believes in me and who's totally happy as to where I am and what I'm doing. But more importantly - that there really are people out there who despite the distance and the time apart, still remain (and always will be) my closest friends.

Friends really do come and go and you lose touch of some high school friends. Pero pag FMS, parang diamonds - forever. =p

Two good things happened today : Ateneo wins the UAAP Championship + Today is Salary Day (with a pleasant surprise btw. haha)
